Rebecca Winterhalder ACII, Ageas

Graduate scheme I Team Leader I Claims Analyst I Motor Claims Operations Manager

What were you doing before this role?

I joined Ageas on the Graduate programme and started as a Motor Fleet Team Leader. I then moved into a Claims Development Analyst role which was primarily project management. Following this I took on the Motor Claims Operations Leader role responsible for four operational teams which then led to my current position as Motor Claims Operations Manager. I have responsibility for 150 employees across two sites.

What degree did you study for, and from which university?

BSc Psychology from the University of Portsmouth.

What do you do in a typical working day?

The role is incredibly varied so no two days are the same. One thing that does remain constant is our purpose. This is key to the way we work and as a leader this can take many forms when it comes to the day-to-day work such as managing projects, change management, progressing the culture and environment and understanding demand.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people and the variety make every day different, interesting and fulfilling.

What do you need to be successful in your role?

Proactivity, drive, the ability to influence others and build relationships.

Have you taken any professional qualifications?

I have completed my ACII and gained Chartered Insurer status. I also start my MSc Insurance and Risk Management this year.

What are the main benefits of working in the profession?

So many! Being able to make a difference, the people you work with, the variety of work, professional qualifications and career progression to name a few.

Why did you choose a career in insurance?

Insurance is all about helping people. In claims, we are often the first ones to speak to someone following an incident that at the very least has inconvenienced them and at its worst has devastated their lives. Insurance is the career of choice if you want to help people and really make a difference. This is what I love about our sector and it makes everything worthwhile knowing that we help people in their time of need.
